Dominique Ducharme is a former ice hockey player and the current head coach of the National Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiens.

A presumptive positive result for the virus was identified following testing in Las Vegas on Thursday, the National Hockey League stated in a statement less than three hours before Friday’s game. Further testing on Friday confirmed the positive result.
“Coach Ducharme was immediately isolated from the team,” according to the statement. “All tests performed to the players, other coaches, and hockey staff from yesterday and today have returned uniformly negative results.”

Ducharme received his second COVID-19 vaccine on June 9, while health officials say it can take up to two weeks for the body to develop full immunity.

Ducharme was a four-year player for the men’s ice hockey team at the University of Vermont. While playing with future NHLers and Stanley Cup champions Martin St. Louis and Tim Thomas, he is ranked ninth.
Following graduation, Ducharme began his professional career with the ECHL’s Raleigh IceCaps and Huntington Blizzard, as well as the AHL’s Cornwall Aces in 1995–96. After that, he played in the French leagues for five years and retire in 2002.
