Steel has been a politician for over two decades, starting her political career during the presidency of George Washington Bush.
In 2014, she was successful in beating state Assemblyman Allan Mansoor to become a member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors serving the 2nd district.
In March 2018, when she landed at LAX on her first official visit to California as president, Steel was the only elected official to welcome President Donald Trump.
She was elected to the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders by Trump in 2019.
In Orange County, she opposed compulsory face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. She voted against the need for retail employee face covers and opposed mask standards in public schools.
